Perhaps that must be, in order that they learn. If Gore wins, manufacturing jobs will evaporate in southeast Michigan, and condense in Red China and wherever else are the other "major contributors" to the Gore campaign. The "big three" automakers will "discover" that the "order of the day" is development in Red China. And such companies will "see" that it is in their best interests to build facilities in Red China, at a rate which is going to stun the U.A.W. membership, but not stun the socialists running the U.A.W. The union membership are only making it much, much easier for the "big three" automakers, to expand throughout southeast Asia, not southeast Michigan. But then again, perhaps the U.A.W. membership who are sympathetic with Bill Clinton's version of the Vietnam war, are actually looking forward to being offered "transplant" positions "over there." In which case, goodbye; and wave to the Baldwin bros. Name: Hans Luehrs E-Mail: lu0729@home.com First Time Visitor: Yes Referred By: Found it myself. Comment Other: Just keeping in touch. I tried this the other night but I don't think that I was successful so hopefully what I'm about to write isn't a repeat. I just wanted to say to my fellow TPT's... don't let the past four or five years break your spirit. This is NOT easy for me to say as I am in the same leaky boat. Just remember that the things which do not kill us may only make us stronger. If you have questions then ask questions. If the person you ask the questions of does not satisfy you or is unqualified then find someone who does or is (ie. Kevin Madigan or Bob Humphrey). Please, the last thing we TPT's need is more job stress. Don't spread rumors. Become properly informed so that you can help eliminate them. If you won't do this for TPT's in general than at least do it for yourself. Just wanted to say hello to each of you and to keep up the Great Solidarity efforts, for the betterment of the Union Cause, so we all may enlighten all people about the importance of being a unified labor workforce, and continue to carry the cause to all workers, be they American and all other Nationalities. I was Financial Secretary-Treasurer at Local 34, UAW in Atlanta, Ga. When GM decided to close our Lakewood Plant, which Local 34 was where "THE ORIGINAL 1936 PIONEER SITDOWNERS" began, I then transferred to Parma, Oh. and became a member of Local 1005 UAW. I also transferred back south when we got ready to build our house in Tennessee, I went to Tuscaloosa, Al. and was a member of Local 2083 UAW. Prior to leaving Parma, Oh., I was elected as a District Committeeman for 2 years, then also was elected as a District Committeeman to Local 2083. GM closed our Lakewood Plant in 1980 and I went to the Doraville, Ga. plant for 3 months and was a member of Local 10. In 1995 when GM changed the Tuscaloosa plant to a Delphi Plant, I went back to Parma, Oh. and spent my last 2 years of employment there, and officially retired effective January 2000, and am currently a Retiree from Local 1005, with a total accredited service of 30.8 years. I also have a son who has 8 years with Ford at the Hapeville, Ga. plant, where they build the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. He is a member of Local 882 and on the Veteran's Committee and elected as an Alternate Committeeman. Brothers and Sisters, just keep the faith, and remember, if you have to transfer to keep your job with Ford, it will be a tremendous hardship to you and your family, but you must do this, in order to maintain all your seniority and other Ford benefits. Remember that the UAW will always be there for you and it is only through the UAW, that we all continue to enjoy so many of the many benefits, that other people only dream of. I am so thankful, along with my family, that we draw more in retirement, than so many other people who work everyday and the only benefit they have is a paycheck, which is much smaller than my and other Brother and Sisters retirement checks. Everyone has so many decisions to make, but trust me, as a UAW Retiree, when you make your time, GET OUT and spend your time with YOUR FAMILY. LIFE IS SHORT, GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY IT. You may not always agree with everything that the Union does, but remember, if you don't like a decision, get involved and work toward what you believe in, so as it will be the best for all UAW MEMBERS. GET INFORMED, GET INVOLVED, AND PASS IT ON TO OUR YOUNGER UAW MEMBERS, AND INFORM YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT UNION LABOR BENEFITS ALL WORKERS, PERIOD. Best Wishes to each of you at Local 387 and support your Local 387 Leadership and the International UAW. They choose to take time out of there day to come in early so they can wait for a "good" parking spot. Time is valuable our most precious commodity you can never get it back. Why come in 30 min. (some time more) early to get a "good" spot you can park at the farthest part of the lot and it would take you less than 5 min. to get to the door. If you desire to be closer go at break or lunch and move up. POINT TWO : handicap parking . I can't believe all the young people and or people who don't need it parking in handicap parking . You should be ashamed of yourself. If you do not have a heart condition or a walking disability do you really need to park there (you people know who I'm talking to). This is the sort of thing that we need to know more about in order to appreciate the value of unions. I also enjoyed the description of what happens in a stamping plant. Anyone want to help me get a plant tour?! I am trying to learn more about the auto industry so that I can give meaningful advice on my site. I hope to post a page that provides summary info on specific models with info on whether or not union-made, environmental performance, and degree to which assembly and parts are made in USA. The hardest info to find is origin of powertrain and other parts--any suggestions for sources on this would be greatly appreciated. If you think your membership would be interested in my site, which is a volunteer effort to help people find American-made products, I would be honored to have a link. Best wishes!
